Ready to Move More? Start Small, Start Your Way

Starting exercise can feel harder than it should.

Maybe you don’t feel fit enough yet. Maybe the gym feels intimidating. Maybe it’s simply been a while and you’re not sure where to begin.

The good news? You don’t have to be “fit” to start. You can start exactly where you are.

At Incl.usiveinc, we believe movement should feel accessible to everyone in Guernsey - whether you love the gym, love to run, want to try Pilates, or simple prefer a relaxed walk on the beautiful cliffs!

Here’s a simple way to get started.

1. Pick one type of movement

Don’t try to do everything at once.

Choose one thing that feels realistic:

  • Go for a 20-minute walk

  • Try a beginner Pilates class

  • Visit the gym for a short session

  • Go for a gentle run or jog

  • Stretch or do a short workout at home

The goal at the beginning is simply to move.

2. Make it easy to achieve

You don’t need to suddenly exercise five days a week.

Start with one or two sessions and build from there.

Twenty minutes is better than planning an hour-long workout you keep putting off.

Choose something that fits around your actual life.

3. Choose something you enjoy

If you hate running, you don’t have to run.

If you love being outdoors, go for a walk.

If you enjoy being around other people, try a class.

If you want to feel stronger, try resistance training.

There is no single “right” way to exercise. The best type of movement is often the one you’ll actually want to do again.

4. Wear something you feel comfortable in

Feeling comfortable can make a big difference when you’re getting started.

Choose activewear that allows you to move freely and makes you feel confident - whether that means supportive leggings, a comfortable top, layers, or something you simply enjoy wearing.

You should be able to focus on moving, not constantly adjusting your clothes.

5. Focus on consistency, not perfection

Some weeks you’ll move more than others.

That’s normal.

Missing a workout doesn’t mean you’ve failed. Taking a break doesn’t mean you have to start from zero.

Just come back to it when you can.

A walk counts.
A short workout counts.
Starting again counts.

Your first step?

Keep it simple.

Choose one thing you can do this week.

A walk after work.
A class with a friend.
Twenty minutes at the gym.
A weekend cliff walk.

You don’t need to become “a fitness person” before you begin.

Start small. Start your way.
